The course is given in German

Students should understand the structure and function of selected electronic and mechatronic systems in motor vehicles in the area of the drive and chassis. This includes the structure of control unit hardware, the sensors required for the various applications, the actual function and the networking within a vehicle with various bus systems. Boundary conditions and development methods in the associated series development are also presented.

Course plan:

  • Requirements for "automotive" electronics, structure of a control unit, component selection
  • Selected sensors
  • Actuators and sensors of petrol engines, three-level concept for e-gas safety, on-board diagnostics (OBD)
  • Anti-lock braking system (ABS), electronic stability programme (ESP), semi-active damper systems
  • Hybrid and electric vehicles, energy storage, drive machines and pulse inverters, topology of the traction network
  • CAN, LIN and Flexray
  • V-model, simulation, application, failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA) and functional safety

There will also be a laboratory session with two experiments. In the first experiment, a control unit will be controlled via CAN and the control of an electromagnetic actuator will be analysed. In the second experiment, an internal power supply for a control unit is to be designed, constructed and measured. The date for the laboratory work will be determined in the course of the lecture.

Necessary prior knowledge: Fundamentals of electrical engineering and technical mechanics.
