The merging of the originally separated departments of power electronics and drive technology into a joint institute in 2001 reflects the technological development towards overall integrated systems. This structure not only enables the mentioned close cooperation, but also offers highly specialized expertise in both fields.

The competencies in the field of power electronics range from the characterization of power semiconductors and the development of innovative control concepts to the development, dimensioning and optimization of power electronic circuits and the associated control and modulation processes, and the control of electrical drives with or without mechanical sensors.
