Stepping motors are used as positioning drives or drives with synchronous speed. Hybrid stepping motors combine the advantage of reluctance and permanent magnet motors. But since their structure is more complicated, the calculation of a 2D FE model is impossible. Building up 3D FE models takes up a great deal of time which makes this tool insufficient in the design stage of a motor. For this reason, a simple, fast model based on analytical calculations is sought in order to calculate the effects of design changes already in the development phase.
